FMCSA Pre-Employment Screening Program review

January 28, 2021 @ 1:00 pm EST - 2:00 pm EST

TAM will be hosting a webconference reviewing all you need to know about the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA’s) Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP). Our presenter is Yvonne Glover, director of operations and marketing for NIC Federal, LLC. (Her speaker’s bio can be found below.)

The FMCSA launched the PSP in 2010 to help motor carriers review drivers’ crash and inspection records. Motor carriers can make use of this tool when considering their next hire. PSP can be used to identify potentially unsafe drivers and defend against negligent hiring litigation.

PSP Offers Valuable Data: Review a drivers’ 5-year crash history and 3-year roadside inspection history as part of preemployment screening and avoid these red flags:

  • Phone use or texting while driving
  • Driver at-fault crashes
  • Speeding
  • Logbook violations
  • Job hopping

Does PSP Really Help Make Roads Safer?: A safety study was conducted to evaluate PSP’s effectiveness. Results showed that carriers using PSP helped:

  • Lower crash rates by 8%, on average
  • Lower driver out-of-service rates by 17%, on average

How PSP Helps You Hire Safe Divers:

  • PSP helps identify unsafe drivers
  • PSP helps identify patterns in driver histories
  • PSP helps identify inaccurate driver histories
  • Using PSP helps protect against negligent hiring litigation
